A Forced Hedge Against State Opacity.

The proposed listing of Nigeria's oil assets is not a retail wealth event. It is a hostile takeover of state opacity.
Capital must distinguish between two distinct animals. Listing NLNG is a cash-out of a world-class, private-managed asset. Listing NNPCL is a restructuring event for a state-managed entity. Conflating the two masks the structural rot in the latter.
Consensus assumes listing creates transparency. This is a mistake. Transparency is the prerequisite for a listing, not a byproduct. Without a radical audit cleanup, an IPO is just a high-priced debt instrument in disguise.
We are watching the governance delta between NLNG and NNPCL as the only proxy for valuation. If the state refuses to clear audit backlogs, it is not selling equity. It is selling a promise it cannot keep.
Success requires the state to accept the discipline of public scrutiny. Until then, the market is pricing nominal ambition rather than structural maturity. Investors should look for the transfer of operational control, not just the ticker symbol.
