A solvency test for the digital lifeboat.

Centralized exchanges are the primary infrastructure for the shadow dollar market in Nigeria. This week, that infrastructure cracked. A $6.3 billion hole is not a routine cyber event. It is a significant portion of total liquid reserves.
Consensus views 'phased withdrawals' as a path to recovery. This is a mistake. In banking, phased withdrawals are a euphemism for managing a bank run under capital constraints. When the exit door narrows, the lifeboat becomes an enclosure.
If the primary exchange fails, the local liquidity vacuum will be absolute. The 'security subsidy' investors assume they receive from centralized platforms is an illusion. You are trading currency volatility for counterparty collapse.
I predict institutional allocators in Lagos and Johannesburg will abandon centralized custody by 2027. The risk is no longer the price of the asset. The risk is the plumbing of the market. Move to multi-signature self-custody for any capital not actively in flight.
