An industrial miracle is not an equity windfall. Most investors confuse operational success with share price performance. They will lose money waiting for a refinery to fix their portfolio.
The Listing Lag is a structural reality in Nigeria. Historical data shows a 10 to 19 year window before dominant industrial entities reach price maturity. This is the time required for the market to absorb the sovereign discount.
NASCON listed and then fell 73 percent. It stayed below its offer price for a decade. Dangote Cement required years of flat trading before delivering a 666 percent gain. The asset is quality but the duration is punishing.
Investors are currently pricing the refinery as a 12 month flip. This is a mistake. High interest rates and currency risk create a liquidity enclosure. Your capital is effectively locked until the industrial cycle completes.
Terminal value is real for those who stay. It is invisible to those who trade on news cycles. In this market, duration is the only hedge against volatility.
Underwrite the position for a decade or do not buy it at all. Survival requires matching your exit to the industrial output, not the headlines.
