Reuters has reported that this period is characterized by a surge in core capital goods orders and a significant buildout of infrastructure. The shift from human-intensive operations to AI-native efficiency moves the labor-to-capital ratio toward a new steady state. While global in nature, these cuts naturally impact local markets. In Lagos and Johannesburg, the reduction in headcount at firms like Block and Meta increases the density of senior engineering talent available for local ventures.

As data centre capacity in Africa now exceeds 500 MW, the physical infrastructure is catching up to this digital shift. For the disciplined allocator, the signal is clear. We are moving away from a decade where scaling headcount was seen as a competitive advantage. The focus has shifted back to unit economics and the density of talent. High quality firms are proving they can deliver superior margins with leaner, more specialized structures.

True scale is found in systems that compound without a linear increase in personnel.
